GIS Technician II supports the operation and maintenance of the company GIS application by maintaining, reporting, and posting work or by gathering data to be input by others. GIS Technician II is the intermediate level of the classification series, and incumbents at this level are expected to work independently, or as part of a team, with minimal supervision, and to develop advanced skills.
These position will be located at two different sites in the St. Petersburg, Florida area. The exact location will be determined based on business needs at the time of offer. Responsibilities & Duties:
Reads, understands, and interprets complex design drawings, property plats, maps, and other related information as necessary to post data in the Company GIS system.
Manipulates data for entry into the Company GIS system from CAD or like system.
Generates and maintains GIS-generated operations maps.
Resolves construction details with construction personnel. Resolves job conflicts in the Company GIS for others.
Compiles information from a variety of sources, makes complex maps for environmental studies, engineering, planning and other disciplines and purposes.
The incumbent must combine knowledge of the physical electric power system equipment and maintenance and construction activities.
This position will operate with minimal direct supervision and may serve as the single point of contact for GIS information and analysis in support of an enterprise wide solution for GIS / landbase functions in support of electric/gas distribution, transmission, environmental, real estate, right of way, economic development, vegetation management and land acquisition initiatives.
Qualifications: Basic Qualifications:
Must have completed 60 semester hours in a Geography or GIS program at an accredited college or university plus at least 2 years of applicable work experience OR an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university, plus completion of a GIS certification program recognized by the Company at an accredited college or university plus at least 2 years of applicable work experience.
Demonstrated working knowledge of GIS applications such as G/Technology, GE Smallworld and ESRI
Demonstrated strong working knowledge of the transmission and distribution systems, substations and substation equipment and associated safety and maintenance policies, practices and procedures
Familiarity with landbase terminology and practices as they relate to GIS software applications
Demonstrated ability to work with numerous organizational levels of personnel, both within and external to the company (e.g. Supervisors, Managers, Engineers, Technical Analysts, Technicians, Electricians, Mechanics, Vendors, Contractors, Consultants, etc.)
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to share information and transfer knowledge to others
Good written and oral communication skills
Demonstrated strong customer-service attitude
Experience working knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse, printer, and associated equipment Demonstrated working knowledge of Computer Aided Drafting applications such as Microstation and AutoCad
