About the Corporate Finance Organizational Unit:
This position will be in the Controller’s division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Corporate Finance Organization. Corporate Finance provides financial services to Southern California Edison and Edison International. This area provides the information you need to understand our goals, the services we provide, how we are organized, and who to contact with questions. Finance works with its business partners to understand their business requirements and utilizes the functional expertise of its people, its resources and its processes to deliver solutions to meet those requirements. The organization acts as a steward to do what is best for the company, ensuring that SCE meets or exceeds the sustainability, safety and compliance standards set by the corporation. Finance delivers efficient, reliable solutions through its 6 operating departments.
This position is part of Southern California Edison’s (SCE) University and Campus Relations Internship Program. Corporate Finance currently have Year-Round Internship opportunities. Year-round interns work on a part-time basis throughout the school year.
SCE offers these programs with the belief that learning and development are important parts of building future leaders. Our internships help students gain real-world experience by placing them in teams within the operating units where they will work on projects that support the strategic initiatives of the business. Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in intern mixers, executive speaker series, site tours, community volunteer events, and cross-company networking.
The successful candidate will provide analytical and transaction support for the accounting activities in the group.
Typical responsibilities will include:
Provide analytical and transaction accountingsupport including support for accounts payable, payroll, general ledger,fixed asset, book and tax depreciation, regulatory and financialaccounting. This position will alsoprovide project team support on initiatives in these areas.
Validating financial model assumptions, inputsand calculations.
Assisting in evaluating, developing, andimplementing improvements in Controller’s processes and modeling.
Assisting in the monthly accounting closingprocess and ongoing account reconciliation.
Assisting in earnings budget variance analysisand reporting.
Assisting in regulatory analysis or studiesinvolving, revenue, jurisdictional splits, depreciation lives, net salvageand working capital requirements.
Assist in auditing work papers in support ofregulatory filings.
Measure, audit, review and improve processesin; expense reimbursement, timekeeping, and accounts payable.
Performing other responsibilities and dutiesas assigned.
Must currently be pursuing an undergraduate orgraduate degree in Accounting or Finance/Economics with a minor inAccounting at an accredited institution with a graduation date of May/June2018 or later.
Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of3.00 or higher as determined by your current academic institution.
Must be currently a Sophomore, Junior orSenior in current academic status.
Knowledge of and experience working withGeneral Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards and principles.
Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word,Excel and PowerPoint.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communicationskills.
Attention to detail and the ability to buildinterpersonal relationships with clients, peers and management.
Demonstrated experience developing anddelivering presenting recommendations/results on performed analyses.
Demonstrated experience analyzing accountingor financial data and generating reports.
Demonstrated experience balancing andorganizing multiple assignments and participating on project teams.
Ability to work with confidential informationand maintain appropriate confidentiality levels.
Reliability with a strong desire tolearn.
Strong resource and project planning skills,results delivery, ethics and leadership skills.
Ability to follow Edison safety protocols andsafe work practices.
