General Statement of Duties
Under general supervision works alone on all overhead and underground facilities up to 600V or with another employee to install and maintain electric distribution Systems. To perform these duties may be required to climb utility poles. May use machinery in the performance of their duties. Performs duties of the Utility Operator and Meter Utility Person.
Performs all work in a safe manner. Complies with all applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures. Performs all work that they are qualified and trained to do in a manner to protect themselves, their fellow employees and the public from injury.
Installs and maintains street light equipment including customer owned lighting, electrical cable and works on energized conductors up to 600V. As necessary, technicians may be required to operate a switch or cutout on an energized overhead transformer in order to complete work on conductors up to 600V.
Installs, uses and removes protective equipment and devices on energized electric circuits up to 600V.
Clears lines. Performs minor tree trimming, cuts brush, removes line detriments and takes other necessary steps to repair trouble on lines up to 600V.
Installs and removes single-phase up to and including class 200/240V socket typed meters in conjunction with the installation and removal of permanent and temporary overhead and underground services. Reads and collects data from meters as required.
Installs, repairs, relocates and removes overhead electric services, to run underground electric services, make necessary connections which may require working with other qualified employees, tap and splices; turns on and off electric service. Works with electrical instruments such as volt meters, amp meters and fault locators.
Locates underground facilities in conjunction with their work. Additionally, performs locates where no Locator/Leak Surveyors exist.
Patrols transmission and distribution circuits as assigned. Inspects poles and towers.
Receives and handles calls and electronically dispatched orders in the field. Determines and reports the extent of repairs, material and equipment needed to complete work assignment. Performs public contact when necessary.
Procures materials, tools, equipment and supplies according to prescribed procedure; loads, unloads and handles same for work process or delivery and exercises proper care in such handling.
Maintains work areas, tools, and equipment in neat, orderly, safe condition.
Operates vehicles and attached devices. Inspects vehicle for proper operating condition, including fuel, oil, tires, brakes, lights and windshield wipers. Makes minor repairs to equipment and reports major defective conditions.
Leads, trains and instructs employees in their work.
Class “A” CDL required upon hire
Pipeline/Hwy Alcohol & Drug Testing
Must be able to pass a background check to meet Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) certification
High school diploma or equivalency is required
Must have completed an electrical tech or trade school program. A power line school or related program is preferred.
Must be located or willing to relocate, on your own, to be within 30 minutes response time to the posted location.
