About the Opportunity

Energy Delivery Planning and Protection (EDPP) Transmission Planning & Protection Specialists are responsible for projects across FirstEnergy's transmission and sub-transmission systems in an Operating Company area. The primary focus is on the study, planning, and protection of transmission and sub-transmission lines, and substations to ensure its safe and reliable operation. Responsibilities also include support of compliance, data, and models.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing studies related to generation and load interconnections to the transmission system.

  • Developing protective relay design specifications and settings for transmission line and substation projects.

  • Providing technical engineering analysis and performing/developing engineering studies of transmission infrastructure projects, plans, and capital budgets to maintain the reliability and integrity of the FE system.

  • Performing engineering analysis for root causes of automatic trippings of the transmission and sub-transmission systems.

  • Providing technical relaying guidance to field and control center personnel.

  • Demonstrating a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

  • Providing technical engineering support to management and higher levels of professionals, as needed.

  • Conducting technical research; Compiling and analyzing complex technical data; Solving practical engineering problems.

  • Preparing technical reports and summaries; Making presentations when necessary.

  • Recommending and implementing engineering solutions to complex technical issues and assignments.

  • Providing engineering support in preparing technical responses to state and federal commission requests for information and analysis of technical information.

  • Preparing technical evidence submittals and related engineering analysis for compliance related to various EDPP related activities.

  • Recommending and implementing job related improvements and efficiencies for the betterment of the overall processes within Planning and Protection.

  • Providing assistance during emergencies and storm related activities.

  • Providing Operations Center technical engineering support during storms, heavy loading periods, abnormal system events, etc.

  • Ensuring that EDPP meets RF, NERC, PJM and regulatory requirements for EDPP through answering to audits, information requests and managing evidence for meeting NERC Requirements.

  • Developing transmission circuit models to represent ratings and impedances for the FE system as well as create load flow cases using that information.

Qualifications:

  • Works safely according to company policies and procedures.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field.

  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience.

  • Strong written and oral communications skills.

  • Sound teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical abilities involving moderately complex problems; exercise sound judgment.

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Word, and SAP.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new software applications needed for the position.

  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.

  • Must live within 45 miles of reporting location.
