This position will report the General Manager of Distribution Vegetation Management. The preferred location for this position is Raleigh, NC but can be located in Charlotte, NC.

This position is responsible for leading and providing strategic direction in the execution of the Distribution Integrated Vegetation Management (IVM) Program for a jurisdictional region(s) within Duke Energy. This position provides strategic direction to company and contractor personnel to achieve desired safety and reliability results, customer and community acceptance, regulatory compliance, and execution of the IVM work plan within financial constraints for a multi-state, regulated utility service area. The scope of responsibility for this position and the IVM Program includes vegetation maintenance of the rights-of-way of distribution overhead circuit facilities and an annual budget of $50 - $113 Million. Reporting directly to this position are Manager I, Distribution Vegetation Management and Division VM Specialist positions. This position is also responsible for utilizing a work force of full time, exempt VM Specialists, Contract Foresters, and 400 - 1,700 base load, contract tree workers that increases during the summer herbicide season, to accomplish the annual IVM work plan in compliance with ANSI/OSHA and State regulations.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:

Promote Zero Injury / Zero Incident work culture and Human Performance Improvement within company and contract team.

Provide strategic resource, communication, and oversight plans to ensure the annual IVM Program is executed safely, effectively, within financial constraints, and in compliance with Duke Energy specifications and regulatory requirements. Ensure vegetation management contracts are administered in accordance with company policies and contract terms and conditions and payment invoices are processed according to established guidelines. Provide oversight of quality programs that monitor, evaluate, and manage line clearance contractor performance. Ensure contractor safety, quality, customer service, and productivity meet or exceed goals and that contractors are pursuing continuous improvement. Manage the relationship between VM contractor management, zone management, and contract administration. Coordinate and direct VM contract and company resources for restoration efforts in response to major storm events.

Provide effective leadership and direction to employees on the team to maintain an effective and motivated work force. This includes obtaining feedback and input from internal customers, providing on-going coaching and feedback, conducting performance reviews, monitoring work requirements, maintaining positive employee relations, identifying training needs, and providing training opportunities and resources.

Collaborate with the Vegetation Governance organization as a key stakeholder on strategic vegetation management issues including funding needs, regulatory interactions and issues, work plan development, performance metrics, technical specifications, strategic sourcing, contract management, etc. Participate and provide strategic direction within the industry. Support benchmarking and identification of best management practices. Ensure VM related Regulatory Compliance requirements are met and appropriate documentation is maintained. (Utility Commission, City/Municipal Ordinance Etc.)

Effectively represent vegetation management within Distribution Region Operations organization. Advocate for the distribution vegetation management programs by developing and maintaining relationships with external and internal customers. Assist and intervene as needed to assist forestry and government/community relations personnel in resolving any vegetation management related issues and protect the Duke Energy brand. Bachelor Degree in related area (Forestry, Engineering, or other related technical field) and 5 years of related Transmission or Distribution experience OR 10-12 years’ experience working with an electric utility or in vegetation management in lieu of a degree Desired Qualifications:
