About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
The Principal Manager of Business Planning will participate in the development, submission, defense and preparation of testimonies, applications, filings and responses to regulatory agencies (e.g., California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) involving electric transmission and distribution costs. Prepares analyses on operational effectiveness and capacity utilization and makes recommendations for improvement. Develops process analyses, designs and simulations. Responsible for the T&D Operational Plan and budgets. Works with Operational finance to provide strategic direction, insights, and monthly reporting for T&D O&M and Capital budgets. Performs analyses of operation cost elements to ensure effective and efficient operations.
Responsibilities may include:
Acts as a subject matter expert on organizational unit related regulatory cost matters.
Leads strategic planning activities through development of new approaches and methodologies based on complex mathematical and statistical models for operational and financial issues.
Forecasts work volume, resource requirements, and costs for projects and programs base on business operations, regulatory requirements and financial analysis.
Leads process improvements initiatives and developing options for solutions through changes in roles, processes/procedures, organizational structures, and technology.
Guides teams to map current business processes and technology options, evaluates and analyzes bottlenecks and pain points, performs root cause analyses, and identifies areas that can be improved or automated for efficiency or to reduce errors.
Manages resources and budget levels to meet strategic objectives and operational needs.
Manages, trains and develops staff by providing timely feedback, coaching and support including making, recommending and/or approving employment decisions (e.g., hiring, promotion, appropriate pay, rewards/recognition, succession planning, and termination).
Creates and maintains a safety conscious work environment by leading and influencing others to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Must have seven or more years of experience managing, supervising, or leading one or more organizations or teams.
Must have seven or more years of project management including planning and executing scope of project, scheduling of project, managing cost/budget, identifying/allocating resources, tracking progress, and presenting to key stakeholders.
Must have experience developing testimonies and other regulatory reports.
Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business, or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting regulations, legislation or policies.
Demonstrated experience developing, implementing and monitoring multi-year strategic plans to ensure regulatory compliance and to promote advocacy.
Demonstrated experience building effective relationships with executives and department heads to gain understanding of critical business needs.
Demonstrated experience interfacing effectively with external stakeholders, regulatory agency staff, direct reports, corporate officers and all levels of management.
Must demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.
Must demonstrate strong ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.
Master's Degree in Engineering, Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics or other quantitative field.
Experience with transmission/distribution long term capital planning.
Experience and understanding of relevant functional area such as field engineering, system planning, distribution, transmission, substation or grid operations.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Position will require 30% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
The primary work location for this position is Pomona, CA. However, the successful candidate may be asked to travel locally and to San Francisco, CA.
