Under the direction of an attorney, perform complex legal assignments requiring knowledge of SRP policies, legal procedures, legal terminology and legal document formats with a high degree of discretion and judgment, often involving confidential and/or privileged information. Organize case and project related documents including electronic and hard copy form. Assist attorney in prioritizing work tasks and deadlines and assist in completing work assignments. Conduct legal research, compile, analyze and organize information for subpoenas and data requests. Maintain office files, files for central records and archives, multiple data bases and law library. Perform other high-level administrative work and special projects and/ collaborative team functions on assigned projects. Prepare materials for filings/e-filing with, and transmittal to, various parties, courts, federal and state agencies. Must be eligible to be certified as a Notary Public.
Assist with basic organization of attorney work tasks including assisting with organizing incoming materials (hard copy and electronic), prioritizing work tasks and deadlines, and assisting with completing work assignments.
Assist with arranging materials in advance of meeting schedule to insure attorney and client team are prepared, and research and work tasks have been completed.
Organizing incoming materials includes scanning and placing in proper electronic and/or hard copy locations.
Assist with communications with clients and external parties to schedule meetings and work tasks.
Assist with calendaring deadlines for pleadings and hearings in litigation matters such as the General Stream Adjudications and inform client teams accordingly.
Research and Analysis:Assist with and perform legal and non-legal research to gather, analyze, and summarize information to complete work tasks and provide legal advice to client teams; develop relationships both internal to SRP and external to facilitate gathering research materials.
Assist with drafting and finalizing complex agreements.
Assist with preparation of summaries of pleadings, discovery, depositions, and expert reports for active litigation and other matters.
Assist with organizing consultants including preparing initial drafts of consulting agreements and work orders; tracking work orders; assist with processing invoices.
Assist attorneys with their work related to their specialized areas of law, primarily in water and land rights but also including environmental; finance and tax; bankruptcy; executive branch; contracts; litigation; real estate; water rights; labor negotiations; regulatory; claims; revenue recovery; renewable energy; intellectual property; transactional.
Assist with preparing status reports on cases and projects for internal clients.
Perform legal research using resources such as Westlaw, Pacer, FERC, Internet, state and federal courts and other sources.
Track legal documents to meet court, contract and other deadlines of various entities.
Assist attorneys in trial preparation by reviewing and summarizing information and ensuring the proper calendaring of claims for actions, including arbitrations.
Maintain law library and update statutes, regulations and other legal publications.
Maintain and report attorney Continuing Legal Education.
Maintain and renew SRP’s state and federal trademarks, trade names and patents.
Maintain Law Services’ files, multiple databases and process transmittal of files to central records and archives.
Process Board and Council Agenda Memoranda.
Process Board, Council and Committee minutes for review and comment.
Monitor and prepare weekly and monthly law status reports.
Process departmental payroll.
Knowledge and Skills:
Ability to function effectively in a team environment. Exceptional organizational skills to assist in management of significant number of case and project files including comprehending and organizing case and project related documents. Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology and law office practices and procedures. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to follow complex written instructions, to write clear, concise, grammatical English with strong proofreading skills and to analyze and organize facts and material clearly and logically. Proficient in MS Office 2010, Outlook, Workshare Compare, Standard Adobe and SharePoint 2010. Must have a valid secretarial test on file with the ability to type 70wpm with 90% accuracy. Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills. Comprehend content of documents to ensure accurate disposition. Exceptional quality of work and attention to detail is vital. Establish and maintain cohesive working relationships with other departments and external organizations. Capacity to manage multiple priorities and conflicting requests and produce timely high-quality work. Skill in understanding the necessity and the ability to preserve and maintain confidential communications and legally privileged information. Demonstrate proficiency in performing advanced administrative and legal secretarial functions (formatting complex documents including styles and table of content, track changes and Workshare)
