Department Overview

Responsible for PG&E’s Remediation projects and leads a team to establish department goals and ensures consistency in agency, community, and political agreements. Fosters relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the Vice President of Land, Environmental and Permitting Services. .

Job Responsibilities

Direction: Provides direction and leadership across broad areas that affect the legacy contamination issues associated with operations of the company, including known sites, evolving regulatory standards and company financial and environmental goals. Responsible to ensure that the team proactively identifies and addresses emerging issues that can impact remediation efforts.

Remediation Program Management: Leverages both technical and non-technical aspects of remediation program management to build external reputation for the program and the company. Develops the manager team to include this broad perspective in project planning and execution. Lower business and reputational risks for the company by understanding company issues, and implementing procedures in remediation to resolve the issues.

Oversight and Governance: Provides direction and oversight to the entire Remediation department, including coworkers, alliance partners and support organizations. Assures company and department policies and procedures are followed; governs process and controls are in place; monitors for consistency and communication across project sites; balances priorities among projects; identifies opportunities and resolves problems. Works hand in hand with legal, risk and compliance and regulatory relations to determine the best course of action for high profile sites.

Building Partnerships: Develops and maintains constructive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Negotiates with internal and external stakeholders on a regular basis. Internal stakeholders include Directors of the other business functions as well as representatives of other departments within the company. External stakeholders include consultants; federal, state and local government agencies; special districts; national, state and local non-governmental organizations; Indian tribes; commercial interests, and members of the public.

Travel to project sites is required as a key leadership responsibility. Conference and workshop attendance to represent the company’s leadership role externally is required. Anticipated travel is up to 40%.

Background Qualifications

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, public policy, business, or a related discipline applicable to position or equivalent experience

  • 12+ years of experience which include the following:

  • 5 years of experience in environmental disciplines and 3 years in remediation area

  • 5+ years of experience managing people

  • 5 years program leadership experience

Desired

  • Advanced degree in engineering, environmental sciences, media communications, business, or a related technical discipline applicable to position

  • 10 years PG&E experience interacting with multiple lines of business and departments

  • 10 years of experience managing people

  • 7 years external agency relations experience
