The Nuclear Unit Supervisor in Training must be employed at the power plant for at least six months prior to starting a licensetraining class. Upon completion of training, the successful candidate will obtain and maintain a Senior Reactor Operator (SRO)license. As an SRO, you will be responsible for the safe and reliable operation of the Davis-Besse Power Plant nuclear reactor,as well as protecting the health and safe y of the public and the environment. This responsibility includes working a rotating shiftschedule (midnights, days and afternoons) that covers operations twenty four hours a day, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and directing both licensed and non-licensed operators in the routine activities of operating a nuclear power plantand testing various components and equipment in accordance with approved procedures.

  • Providing direct supervision of control room activities to maintain a quiet, professional atmosphere.

  • Coordinating with other departments in the maintenance and testing of plant components and equipment.

  • Responding to abnormal, transient and accident conditions.

  • Implementing the Emergency Preparedness Plan and performing the duties of the Emergency Director (in the absence of theShift Manager) until relieved by higher line management.

  • Training and qualifying in firefighting, first aid, CPR and emergency rescue, and leading the on-shift emergency squad inresponse to plant emergencies and personnel injury and illness.

  • Performing Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.

  • In addition, one of the following technical qualifications must be met to qualify for the SRO license training program:

o Has 1 year or more as an active RO or SRO at a commercial power reactor facility of the same vendor and vintage.

o Has 1.5 years or more as an ACTIVE* RO or SRO at a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility or at a non-comparablecommercial power reactor facility.

o Has 2 years or more in a position equivalent to a reactor operator position at a military reactor? (qualified to manipulate ordirect the manipulation of control rods)

o Has a BS degree or equivalent in engineering, engineering technology or related sciences? Professional engineer license(PE) preferred.

  • Power Plant Staff–comparable: 18 months

A manager, supervisor or staff member responsible for the coordination and implementation of plant equipment controls,integrated operations procedures, operations, maintenance, engineering, radiological support, modifications, maintenanceplanning, work control, chemistry, or accredited training at the current or a comparable (BWR/PWR) facility. This includesqualified non-licensed operators .

  • Power Plant Staff–non-comparable: 27 months

Experience as listed above at a non-comparable facility may be credited on a 1.5:1.0 basis. This includes qualifiednon-licensed operators (see 2.3.6).

  • Non-comparable Degree: 36 months

o Completed SRO equivalent training, received an SRO certification and performed instructor duties for at least four years ata comparable facility or for six years at a non-comparable facility.

  • Must exhibit a high degree of nuclear professionalism.

  • Must possess an understanding of nuclear safety principles.

  • Possess good judgment, personal integrity, leadership ability, a sense of empowerment and motivation to drive excellence inperformance.

  • Possess a sound, basic knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn in a fast paced program.

  • Must reside within site specific ERO response time.
