At the center of this transformational change is Information Technology (IT). Many of the innovative ideas and projects that shape the industry and our company’s future are dependent on IT. IT employees are at the heart of these major transformation projects and provide not only technical expertise but also strong collaborative and leadership skills to execute the Company’s strategy. As such, the IT Department of Con Edison is seeking an application Systems Manager to lead a dedicated support team of technical analysts that are responsible for supporting and enhancing complex and innovative IT solutions for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Project. Candidates must have significant expertise in technology, experience managing technical teams, and the ability to drive innovation. Candidates are expected to leverage these skills to support assigned production systems and act as project manager for the development and implementation of new functionality. Candidates will develop, communicate and influence strategic direction and represent IT with supported lines of business. Candidates are expected to lead their team to develop and manage high quality, integrated IT solutions utilizing strong project management skills. The AMI Project Systems Manager will partner with the AMI Project Business Team, interfacing Business System Development IT Teams, Customer Operations, Electric Operations, and Gas Operations to lead the support and enhancement of assigned systems. This team is responsible for several key AMI systems including the Meter Data Management System (MDMS), AMI Head End System (HES), the AMI System Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART), and the AMI Meter Data Simulation Tool (MDST). As the central repository for all smart meter readings, events, and alarms, the MDMS will form the hub of future AMI enhancements and development and is the primary focus for the team. MDMS provides customer consumption data for electric and gas, a key input to billing. In addition to meter reads, MDMS receives events and alarms generated by smart meters and will play an increasing role in outage detection and service restoration activities. In future phases of the AMI Project, MDMS will also play a central role in innovative new technologies and processes like advanced grid control and outage management integration. The Systems Manager will work with the Department Manager and AMI Project System Integrator to build on the initial release of AMI systems to add new capabilities while ensuring ongoing production support. The Systems Manager must have experience working on complex IT projects, be a strong leader, and be able to lead stakeholders and vendors to a successful outcome. The individual must be highly organized, motivated, and good with multi-tasking. The individual will manage and collaborate with multiple vendors and service providers, work with employees across IT and business areas, direct a dedicated project team, and engage with project sponsors. To be successful in this role the individual must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships built on transparency and trust; must be able to manage cross-functional teams; consistently demonstrate inclusion in decision-making; and possess excellent communication skills, able to interact effectively and convey relevant information simply and clearly to all levels of the organization. The candidate must possess strong business and IT technical acumen. The candidate should be experienced with implementation methodologies including Systems Development Lifecycle, Agile and/or change management. The candidate must possess solid analytical and problem solving skills and should be experienced with directing the development of integrated software, managing issues, risks and dependencies. The candidate must be results oriented and possess high energy coupled with emotional intelligence. Bachelor’s Degree preferably in IT Computer Science, Business Administration, and Engineering with extensive experience (8 to 10 years) in business application services or transformative initiatives is required. Three to five years of leadership or managerial experience is also required. The candidate must possess high integrity and work ethic and must be committed to fostering a Zero Accident Culture, achieving Operational Excellence, developing an Inclusive and Engagement Culture, Enhancing Customers’ Experience, as well as implementing Human Performance Improvements (HPI).

Responsibilities: The candidate will be managing an energetic development team responsible for establishing the foundation, alignment, solution design and deployment, solution testing, and rollout of future phases of the aforementioned AMI Systems. The immediate phases that are beginning will experience new MDMS integrations to support complex billing rates, outage/restoration management, and service orders. In parallel, the candidate will be supporting production systems through the deployment of thousands of meters on a daily basis that will need to provide ever increasing amounts of billing data. The candidate will establish and build relationships with vendors, sponsors, and stakeholders. The candidate will be responsible for the overall design, build and development of the solution. The individual will be directly responsible for technical aspects of the solution in terms of system configuration, developing custom objects, conversion programs, and system interfaces. The individual will lead a team of IT developers and work closely with various delivery groups (vendor developers, BizTalk team and shared resources) to ensure that the system is built to the specifications and meets performance requirements. The candidate will work with the Department Manager to direct and coordinate development activities, manage expectations, and communicate progress at high levels of the organization as well as monitor all aspects of the project to ensure strategic business and IT project management, technology, functional, compliance, and cost management goals and KPIs are met. The individual will help to monitor policy and compliance surrounding application security, cyber security, personal identification information, disaster recovery, Sarbanes Oxley, Corporate Risk Management, EH&S; and software license and maintenance contracts. The candidate will champion change and effectively manage the implementation of new ideas throughout this project; be responsible for communicating with the business to identify emerging or changing needs and evaluate alternative solutions and scope change; develop strategies to stay on track; communicate strategy to the team; assign responsibilities to team members, review status reports, and address issues as appropriate; and manage the development, well-being, and success of the entire IT team working on the AMI Project.

Physical Requirements: The candidate must possess a driver’s license and be willing and able to travel within the service territory, including Orange and Rockland, to attend meetings and provide support as necessary.
