Con Edison Sr System Analyst / 2L in New York, New York

Qualifications: O&R; CIMS is seeking to hire a Senior System Analyst to join its team.

This position requires candidates to demonstrate in the application they possess the following required skills and ability:

Education – Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree with at least 3 years of demonstrated work experience in a related Information Technology field which includes application programming, experience with relational databases and SQL language required. OR

  • Associate’s Degree or technical certification with at least 5 years of demonstrated work experience in a related Information Technology field which includes application programming, experience with relational databases and SQL language required.

  • Must have demonstrated experience working with and coordinating with other departments.

  • Knowledge of Database Design/Analysis, Business Analysis, and/or Data Modeling.

  • Technical requirements include COBOL Programming, JCL, .NET, Web Services, DB2 and MQ Series.

  • Must demonstrate at a high level: understands the application portfolio, the computing and communications infrastructures and the IT organizations required to support them.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel and Powerpoint) is required.

  • Prior experience and/or strong understanding of Customer Information Systems is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience in writing formal documentation and requirements.

  • Experience in preparing and conducting presentations is preferred.

  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible. Ability to complete multiple assignments with changing priorities while still meeting deadlines.

  • Able to perform supervisory functions in support of or absence of team leader preferred.

  • Ability to transfer knowledge to peers and train subordinates preferred.

Responsibilities: With minimal supervision, the Senior Systems Analyst provides significant contributions required for implementation of major projects, taking responsibility for various segments, or will handle all facets of enhancements projects. Plans, directs, and performs systems analysis on reported system issues and requested enhancements. Perform system testing on enhancements and modifications, as well as system development work on interfaces and in house developed applications. Ensures implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Provides significant contributions required for implementation of major projects, taking responsibility for various segments, or will handle all facets of enhancement projects. Works with users to prepare requirements analyses for enhancements to existing systems or new systems. Develops functional scope and design documentation for enhancements proposed for existing systems. Principal author in development of technical documentation for large system projects and the corresponding drafts test plans. Designs application enhancements and small projects according to departmental standards. Writes programming specifications and flow charts based on system design. Codes applications or supports some aspect of the application development environment (such as tools or common components) and performs unit testing. Troubleshoots problems found in testing development projects, production applications, or the development environment. Prepares work for production implementation. Works with vendors to install products. Supports and maintains vendor packages in production, performing and testing upgrades as necessary and prepares changes for production and implementation. Performs integration and system testing, and sets up user acceptance testing and performs application testing for technology upgrades. Provides technical guidance and assistance to CIMS team members. Identifies and resolves information flow, content issues and transforms business requirements into logical database designs, data models and data definitions and recommends tools and methodologies to be used for managing data. May be required to coordinate development activities of several contractors and junior staff. Makes recommendations for improving application design and implementation in light of process changes or changes in the business or technology environment. Responsible for maintaining knowledge of system technologies, approaches, and solutions utilized within the CIMS system and interfaces. Captures scope, design, schedule, cost, and performance information in specified documentation formats and performs necessary updates. Participates in the Company’s emergency management processes, storm plans, and disaster recovery simulations, as required. Performs other related duties and assignments, as required.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.

  • Must be able to participate in the Company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
