Con Edison Section Manager / 3L in New York, New York

Qualifications: Con Edison’s Steam Business Services is seeking a highly motivated dedicated professional to join the organization. The Section Manager will be responsible for leading the Steam Operations Planning section, which conducts comprehensive studies and analyses in support of Steam Operations’ goals of providing reliable service at a reasonable cost. This manager will oversee the operations planning of the Steam System, including fuel purchases, dispatch of generating stations, generating unit outages, testing of system parameters, as well as have involvement with rate case proceedings and regulatory matters. This position will cover technical, financial, environmental, and regulatory areas. Successful candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or applicable equivalent) is required as well as a minimum of eight years relevant work experience or; Master’s degree with six years of relevant work experience. Supervisory and project management experience is strongly recommended. Must exhibit leadership characteristics, have strong oral/written communication skills and excellent analytical skills. Must have hands-on experience with PC applications, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities: .The primary objectives and responsibilities includes Forecasting fuel (oil and gas) requirements and associated expenses as well as oversee and approve all fuel oil related transactions, including procurement, contract negotiations, storage, transportation, delivery, and ancillary services. Provide support to System Operations, the Steam Generating Stations, and Steam Distribution by scheduling generating unit outages, issuing guidelines for operating reserve requirements, devising operating plans, and analyzing critical main shut offs. Analyze Steam System operation and performance and develop programs to enhance system reliability, flexibility, environmental conditions, and minimize operating costs, seeing these programs to their implementation. Initiate, develop, and implement strategic uses of simulation models to study and improve operations as well as aid in contingency analyses, operator training, and the optimization of the commitment and dispatch of resources. Facilitate compliance with reliability goals and regulatory requirements including compliance with environmental regulations and submit production cost and fuel strategy related testimony in steam rate cases. Provide support to Central Engineering to ensure that all proposed major projects are in the best interests of the steam business and comply with the overall long range plan. Coordinate all required filings and report submissions to the NYISO. Responsible for real time calculations and decision making on fuel switching. Responsible for operational decisions regarding fuel transactions. Oversee development of yearly day by day gas forecast. Oversee development of 5 year gas and oil plan. Responsible for minimum load projections and studies. Responsible for GT forecasts and optimization. R&D; oversight of new technology applications within the steam system. BNY contract oversight for steam including billing review. Ravenswood fuel oil and steam contract oversight including billing review. Develop team members and ensure to set clear goals and expectations. Participate in CERC, and qualify to perform the role of Planning Chief. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Physical Requirements: Must have a valid driver’s license. Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed. Must be able to participate in the company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
