Con Edison Engineering Technician L1-2 in New York, New York

Qualifications: To be considered for the Engineering Technician position in Power Quality, a successful candidate must possess an Associate's degree in Engineering/Computer Science, or a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 2 years of equivalent work experience. The candidate must have a working knowledge of Basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including 3 phase AC power systems. The candidate must also have a working knowledge of mathematics and be able to learn to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry. Must also have knowledge of, and experience with computer systems, and must be able to use a computer to prepare spreadsheets and technical reports. The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills. Must exercise good judgment and make sound decisions to organize, manage, prioritize, and respond to multiple assignments or projects simultaneously to meet deadlines. Primary job functions include voltage and current measurements, setting various monitoring devices at customer premises, troubleshoot and maintain power quality monitors throughout our system, work with computer applications. The technician will learn to operate and setup various power quality monitors, and prepare future installations. The Engineering Technician will have to be able to contact directly with Con Edison customers. Also, the technician will be required to qualify to hold a work-permit in Con Edison substations. The work location is Manhattan, NY.

Responsibilities:

Physical Requirements: The selected applicant must have a valid driver's license and be able to travel to locations as required. This position requires manual dexterity, use of hands, ladder climbing, bending, stooping and kneeling, as well as sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to push, pull, lift up to 50 pounds. Must be medically qualified to wear a respirator. The candidate might be required to enter a manhole/vault, as certain Power Quality monitors are installed in manholes/vaults.
