Con Edison Engineer Sr Engineer in New York, New York

Qualifications: Gas Engineering is looking to hire a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its management team. The ideal candidate for this dynamic position must demonstrate a high energy level, understand the vital importance of Commitment to Excellence, and possess a high regard for Con Edison’s Corporate Values and Mission. Must have excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with internal/external customers and agencies and various levels of management. Knowledge of 16 NYCRR 255 AND 49 CFR 192 is required. Must be task oriented with good financial and analytical perspective. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Familiarity with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint is essential. Must be able to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions. Must be well-organized, detail oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. Either the possession of, or ability to obtain an in-depth knowledge of codes, standards, procedures and specifications is required. Must also be available for emergency work 24/7 as required by system conditions. PE License and Project Management experience are preferred. Knowledge of Byers or Vision is also preferred.

ENGINEER (2L): Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 5 years relevant work experience of which 2 years in engineering, construction, or other operations area, with 1 year of management experience in same areas is required. SENIOR ENGINEER (2H): Requires Bachelor of Science in Engineering and at least 8 years of work experience in engineering, construction, or other operations area, with 3 years of management experience in same areas is required.

Responsibilities: Ensure implementation of Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations. Depending upon group assignment may perform any of the following; Perform engineering studies as required, Perform long term system planning and emergency planning. Design major gas projects, e.g. gas transmission mains, regulator stations, tunnel projects, etc. Includes cost estimates, directing preparation of drawings, appropriations and economic evaluations of the various designs. Develop, prepare and track business plans, goals, master plans, rate case items, budgets, etc. Analyze trends and information and make recommendation from own or other programs to determine overall effectiveness and the need to modify, add, or delete programs. Issue internal and external material and service requisitions. Review and confirm materials ordered are per department specifications. Forecast gas transmission emergency material. Issue Contractor Evaluation Reports. Prepare and revise Company specifications in conformance with PSC, DOT,OSHA, and other laws and regulations. Provide interpretation of specifications and codes. Supports R&D; projects and industry developments associated with gas construction, distribution and maintenance. Provide engineering guidance to field personnel in any area or department and acts as the Company’s representative when dealing with external organizations, agencies, etc. Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

In addition, the candidate is required to be part of an emergency on-call rotation and to provide technical support during system emergencies.

Physical Requirements: The position requires a valid driver’s license. The candidate must be able to travel to various Company work locations within the five boroughs, Westchester, Orange and Rockland Counties. Travel is also required to attend various meetings at non-Company locations. The candidate must be able to visit field sites in all types of weather as required and wear the associated PPE. Must be able to participate in the Company’s emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
