Qualifications: The Relay Protection and Metering Engineering Section within the Control Systems Engineering department seeks a highly motivated candidate who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and understands the vital importance of personal accountability with an ability to render good business decisions. Requires strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal support organization, contractors and various levels of management. Must possess strong technical competence, be well organized, and detail oriented. Must be flexible to handle multiple assignments with changing priorities and deadlines. Must demonstrate a high energy level and promote a positive work ethic in support of our Corporate Values. Selected candidate must have good project management skills with a demonstrated record in implementing multi-discipline projects. Requires computer proficiency to include MS Office. Must demonstrate the ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments. Computer and mainframe experience required. Requires a Bachelor's degree, or higher, in Electrical Engineering.

ASSOCIATE ENGINEER (1H): Requires 2 years of work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience. ENGINEER (2L): Requires 3 years applicable experience in power systems engineering. Preference will be given to those candidates with experience in the relay protection area. SR. ENGINEER (2H): Requires 8 years experience and expertise in the application of relay protection systems, at either the distribution or transmission level. Applicants who also have a Masters degree require 6 years of applicable experience.

Responsibilities: The Engineer’s responsibility will encompass assignments such as Substation Digital Upgrade ,SCADA metering and also capital projects associated with installation of Disturbance Monitoring Equipment. The Engineer will be assigned to review, validate and reconcile revenue-metering data that the Company submits to the NYISO, and to investigate inquiries associated with data problems .The Engineer will also be assigned to design and apply relay protection systems, including teleprotection channels. He/she will also design modifications to existing relay and metering systems in steps to minimize equipment outages, review schematic and wiring diagrams, test results data, and procurement specifications. The duties also include performing short circuit calculations and relay coordination studies. He/she will keep his/her supervisor informed on a timely basis of actual and/or anticipated problems of the assignments that are his/her responsibility. The successful candidate will coordinate engineering activities with Substation Operations, ECB, Construction Management, and PST to ensure that the project is completed successfully. The Engineer will ensure that the long term goal of the capital project is successfully implemented and that the project is completed within the budget. He/she prepares appropriations and project-scoping documents and ensures that they are in accordance with Central Engineering processes and procedures as well as documented in Project Explorer. The individual will participate in engineering design review meetings and manage outside vendor design efforts. Resolve field problems during commissioning . The individual must demonstrate analytical ability and the capability to resolve emergencies associated with relay protection and monitoring systems. The candidate will be required to represent Con Edison on regional relay protection committees. Experienced individuals will be required to mentor and train less experienced engineers.

Physical Requirements: Selected candidate must be capable of working in various indoor and outdoor conditions. The selected candidate must be able to walk/climb/stand extensively, must possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to work in power plants and high voltage substations.
