MDU Resources Group Retail Sales Inventory/Purchasing Agent in Medford, Oregon

Job Summary:

The Medford operation is seeking an energetic, motivated and customer focused individual to oversee inventories and purchasing at the Building Materials Retail Store which sells accessory concrete products to other contractors, businesses and individuals in our market.

Job Responsibilities include:

  • Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest possible price and in correct amounts.

  • Prepare purchase orders, solicit bid proposals and review requisitions for goods and services.

  • Research and evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production and distribution capabilities, and the supplier's reputation and history.

  • Analyze price proposals, financial reports, and other data and information to determine reasonable prices.

  • Negotiate, and administer contracts with suppliers and vendors.

  • Monitor shipments to ensure goods come in on time, and trace shipments for undelivered goods.

  • Confer with staff and vendors to discuss defective or unacceptable goods or service and determine corrective action.

  • Evaluate and monitor contract performance to ensure compliance.

  • Maintain and review computerized or manual records of items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories.

  • Review catalogs, industry periodicals, directories, trade journals, and web resources and consult with other department personnel to locate necessary goods and services.

  • Study sales records and inventory levels of current stock to develop strategic purchasing programs.

  • Interview vendors and visit suppliers' plants and distribution centers to examine and learn about products, services and prices.

  • Arrange the payment freight charges.

  • Monitor and follow applicable laws and regulations.

  • Counter sales include assisting in-person and phone customers with product information, calculating quantities, and recommending the products that will best fit the customer's needs.

  • Loading and unloading of material for customers and vendors, deliveries, maintaining a clean and organized warehouse.

Minimum Qualifications:

2 years of experience purchasing, inventory control and sales of concrete accessory products with a good understanding of how those products complement our ready mix concrete business. Exceptional customer service and communication abilities, strong math and computer skills and a commitment to working safely at all times. It's also important you be able to work effectively as part of a small team.
