Job Summary

The Senior Chemistry Technician reports directly to the Technical Services Manager/Supervisor and is a member of the plant operations and maintenance team of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import/export and liquefaction/re-gasification terminal, including LNG process systems, infrastructure, and power/steam generation. Dedication, sensitivity to safety issues and compliance with policies and procedures is essential for the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the terminal.

The successful candidate must be willing to work in an industrial environment and will provide technical support to the operations and maintenance departments at the terminal. Approximately 45-55% of their time will be spent performing field work, including system troubleshooting and directing operations and maintenance activities in accordance with applicable codes and regulatory requirements.

The Senior Chemistry Technician will apply his/her knowledge of chemistry in the day-to-day operations and processes of the terminal. The successful candidate will interact daily with Operations, Maintenance, and Management.

Mastery of the subject matter or diversified knowledge of principles and practice in broad areas of assignments and related fields:

  • Collects independently (stations only) and performs chemical analyses on gases, liquids, and solids.

  • Operates various chemical test and analytical equipment, including spectrophotometers, titration devices, ion chromatographs, pH meters, and conductivity cells.

  • Maintains, calibrates, standardizes, and performs preventative maintenance on chemistry instrumentation and equipment.

  • Implements and monitors chemistry control processes and programs, ensuring material integrity and long term reliability of plant components.

  • Ensures all regulatory requirements are met. Performs more advanced chemical sampling, analyses, testing, and data evaluation.

  • Coordinates lab operations and performs attendant administrative duties.

  • Provides assistance, advice, and solutions to coworkers.

  • Assists laboratory supervision in assigning and reviewing work of less-experienced technicians.

  • Performs work activities with other station departments, vendors, and contractors.

  • Performs special projects and studies, as designated by laboratory supervision. Identifies and implements better work alternatives and business processes.

  • May serve as lead in providing technical expertise to less experienced technicians.

  • May coordinate and assign work activities of technicians.

  • May provide input in setting objectives and policy, identifying critical issues and introducing new concepts.

  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

During the construction and commissioning phase of the project, the incumbent will be working on an integrated team responsible for such things as development of the station's chemistry and environmental processes/programs.

  • Minimum of 3 years related work experience is required.

  • Designation will be approved by management, and will be based upon sustained, high level of performance, and the needs of the department.

  • Broad knowledge and application of principles, practices, and procedures to carry out all aspects of the job and handle the most complex work.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of chemistry instrumentation.

  • Demonstrated instructional traits.

  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of instruments used in the lab.

  • Knowledge at a level that far exceeds a chemistry technician.

  • Possession and utilization of leadership traits.
