Job Summary/Purpose

Provide high level technical safety and process expertise to assist Telecommunications employees and contractors with safety-related needs, programs, and requirements. Provide assistance to various personnel based on knowledge of OSHA Regulations, ANSI, and NFPA standards and codes. May need to also provide management and oversight of safety programs and practices to ensure compliance with regulations. Responsible for developing, executing and managing a first-rate Telecommunications Safety Program, to include training, communications, policies, procedures, compliance and assessment. Works in close collaboration with Telecommunications management and collaborates with other Entergy Safety units.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Serve as subject matter expert in assisting Telecommunications in identifying safety gaps and assuring attention and closure in a timely manner. Provide in-depth technical expertise for Safety and Health policies, Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, and other job-specific procedures or standards. Perform detailed inspections with knowledge of OSHA and other associated regulations. Perform Safety Program Assessments. Assist in identifying actions necessary to comply with the Safety requirements. Represent Entergy with regulatory agencies. Develop safety-related training materials, and deliver training. Participate in site safety teams and committees and assist with interpretation of regulatory requirements.

  • Be an active member of Entergy’s Safety community and ensure proper focus on safety. Provide guidance and recommendations for improving safety performance. Influence change at all levels to promote the development of a top safety culture. Supports the workforce (in-house and contract), including, but not limited to: investigate incidents and safety related issues on the Entergy system, perform field observations to assure regulatory compliance and Entergy safety rules and procedures, assist during accident investigations and support training of Entergy safety rules and procedures.

  • Develop safety-related training materials and deliver training. Participate in site safety teams and committees. Assist with implementation of new safety initiatives. Perform audits, daily safety observations, and action plan development. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with employees and contractors to ensure alignment with Entergy goals and safety culture.

  • Assist and/or lead accident/incident investigations to assure all relevant causes are identified. Assist in evaluating and eliminating human performance errors.

  • Participate in across system teams, JHA development, initiatives, and departmental reviews, as assigned. Keep abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum education required of the position

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or related safety area is preferred, or the equivalent work experience.

Minimum experience required of the position

3 years of applicable direct industrial safety experience is required.

Desired: 6+ years of applicable direct industrial safety experience. Prefer prior electric utility experience. Desired/preferred qualifications: history of successful safety-related interventions and/or initiatives that have resulted in an overall reduction of safety-related risk; experience implementing behavior-based safety programs; experience developing/implementing written safety procedures and compliance programs.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required of the position

Excellent oral and written communication skills so as to interact effectively with all levels of employees (Craft through Director/VP). Ability to influence and motivate a diverse and geographically dispersed work force dealing with a wide variety of safety and training issues. Must be familiar with and have the ability to interpret OSHA regulations and provide guidance to management on the proper application of these regulations in the workplace. Strong knowledge of computers and related technology. Ability to work irregular hours and out of town assignments as required. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to take and understand directives and complete tasks. Ability to make timely and safe decisions. Excellent knowledge of Entergy's safety policies and procedures. Strong problem solver. Ability to manage multiple activities and changing priorities. Ability to work well under pressure. Self-motivated and dependable team player. Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and have the ability to mitigate the hazards. Ability to maintain and care for Company equipment properly and safeguard assets. Desired: Ability to recognize opportunities for process improvement and have the ability to enact change. Experience working with contract companies is a plus. Bi- or multi-lingual is a plus.

Be able to maintain a valid Driver's License, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.
