Consumers Energy Sr Indirect Tax Analyst in JACKSON, Michigan

Location:

This position is assigned to One Energy Plaza located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance from those locations or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

We are looking for: Sr Indirect Tax Analyst

The Senior Indirect Tax Analyst will prepare or review property, sales and use, and various other indirect tax returns in timely and accurate manner. This role will respond to business unit requests, research complex tax issues, and support indirect tax planning opportunities. This position will manage indirect tax audits, software platforms and process improvements.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting related discipline with a minimum of four (4) years of experience with Indirecttaxgainedinpublicaccountingand/orindustrywithstrongunderstandingofpropertytax,salesandusetax, excise tax, and tax research including handsonexperiencewithvariousindirecttaxfunctionsandsuccessworkinginateambasedenvironment

  • [OR] Associate degree in Finance, Economics or Accounting related discipline with a minimum of four (4) years of experience with Indirecttaxgainedinpublicaccountingand/orindustrywithstrongunderstandingofpropertytax,salesandusetax, excise tax, and tax research including handsonexperiencewithvariousindirecttaxfunctionsandsuccessworkinginateambasedenvironment

  • [OR] High School Diploma with a minimum of twelve (12) years’ of experience with Indirecttaxgainedinpublicaccountingand/orindustrywithstrongunderstandingofpropertytax,salesandusetax, excise tax, and tax research including handsonexperiencewithvariousindirecttaxfunctionsandsuccessworkinginateambasedenvironment

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Lead all propertytaxfunctions,includingpreparationandfilingofpersonal propertyreturns,analyzingreal andpersonal assessments, paying tax bills, calculating monthly accruals and annual budgets

  • Lead salesand use tax functions,includingpreparation and filingof returns,evaluatingtaxabilityof transactions,obtainingand issuing taxexemptioncertificates,reconcilingandpayingliabilities

  • Researchcomplexindirecttaxissuesforvariousbusinessunitsbyprovidingguidanceoncurrenttaxlawsandproposedlegislation

  • Activelyparticipateintheselection,implementation,andoperationofindirecttaxsystemsandleadprocessimprovements initiatives

  • Defendallsalesandusetax,propertytax,andotherindirecttaxaudits.Resolvenoticesfromtaxauthorities

  • Respondtoindirect taxinformationrequestfromleadership,businessunitsandotherinternaldepartments

  • Usecritical thinkinganddataanalysisskillstoinvestigateproblemsandrecommendtaxpositionstomaximizebenefitsforthe company

  • Postjournalentries,run generalledgerreports,andperformreconciliationstocomplywith internalcontrolresponsibilities

  • Othernon-essentialdutiesasassignedormaybenecessary
