About Transmission and Distribution

Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.

Position overview

The Field Accounting Organization (FAO) Division Manager is a leader within the Distribution Business Line Organization. As one of five managers, the FAO division manager has the overall responsibility for all field related accounting activities across the Transmission, Distribution and Substation business lines including capitalization of assets to rate base, timekeeping, material management and asset records ensuring regulatory compliance. The FAO manager is responsible for the hiring, development, safe work practices and performance management of a staff comprised of supervisors 3, Supervising Construction Maintenance Accountants (SCMA), Construction Maintenance Accountants (CMA). The workforce consists of a combination of union represented and non-represented employees. The manger is held accountable for tangible results related to cost efficiency and productivity and is responsible for the general administration, financial discipline, and compliance for all associated work groups.

Typical Responsibilities

  • Manages personnel and individual performance. Provides leadership and oversight to T&D’s field accounting organization to assure work is executed in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner. Provide leadership and direction to a team of approximately 80 people consisting of Supervisor 3’s, and represented employees. The Field Accounting Division Manager directly supervises supervisors. Conducts employee performance reviews, provides coaching/feedback, resolves employee disputes both represented and non-represented, makes hiring and disciplinary actions decisions for direct reports and manages and guides processes for indirect reports. Inspires high performance by emphasizing high quality of work, teamwork, integrity, and pride in all deliverables.

  • Manages team productivity, quality and financial performance. Maintains control of budgets through management of workload, the timely and efficient delivery of a variety of critical deliverables. Aligns cost, timeliness, and productivity expectations with key clients and T&D leadership expectations. Initiates, implements, and monitors metrics and measures to assure optimal throughput, quality, cost controls, customer satisfaction, and improved performance. Seeks ways to improve costs and quality through new work processes, technology, and employee development.

  • Works with other departments and organizations to develop inter and intra organizational strategies related to improved performance and corporate value. Makes key decisions related to the direct impact on Field Accounting as well as T&D.

  • Works with Principal Manager/Technical Support Manager to develop the long-term strategic planning associated with technology, goals and the workforce.

  • Interfaces with T&D’s senior/executive management, and the senior level managers of internal support/client groups to ensure medium to long term corporate and departmental goals are met.

Minimum qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience managing or supervising one or more organizations or units.

  • Two or more years of experience with supply chain (material management), or T & D operations.

  • One or more years working with represented employees.

Desired qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable profession, Business, or technical discipline or related field.

  • Experience working with bargaining unit employees.

  • Knowledge of NERC, FERC, and CPUC.

  • Experience developing and managing cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and schedule multiple projects under severe time constraints and changing priorities.

  • Experience developing project management plans that specify scope, approach, and milestones.

  • Experience managing talent, selecting and developing employees to fill talent gaps, coaching, establishing performance metrics and tracking results to optimize productivity and quality.

  • Experience interfacing and building relationships with various business unit executives and department heads to gain understanding of critical business needs.

  • Experience developing and implementing strategic business plans and objectives for a division/department.

  • Experience managing budgets and/or other complex financial data.

  • Experience providing exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to achieve results through others by establishing the strategic priorities and empowering employees with the authority necessary to accomplish objectives.

  • Ability to accurately analyze information and make strategic decisions that have cross-organizational impact.

  • Ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, develop and execute business plans, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.

  • Effectively resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

  • Possess ethics, influence and negotiation, leadership, interpersonal skills, communication, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning.

  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio, and Project.

  • Ability to create and maintain a safety conscious work environment.
