About the Graduate Development Program:
National Grid’s Graduate Development Program (GDP) is the company’s flagship pipeline program, targeting recent college graduates joining the company in entry-level full time positions. The GDP is designed to prepare early career professionals for future leadership roles within the organization, aims to support Graduates in developing as leaders, guide their career, and increase their business talents and skills. It provides opportunities for Graduates to explore a broad range of disciplines across our functions and locations, work on a variety of projects, and expand their network.
Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an 8-week Orientation. Graduates will spend time learning the core functions of the business, networking with our Executive team, and traveling to our different jurisdictional areas. By the end of Orientation, Graduates have an in depth understanding of who National Grid is as a company and how we do business. They have also formed a network with their fellow Graduates as well assenior business leaders, key GDP stakeholders and GDP Alumni. Graduates also take part in quarterly development sessions with their cohort as well as complete a Capstone Project at the end of their first year with the company.
*About the Position: *
The Associate Supervisor is responsible for the operation and maintenance of a safe and reliable fleet and it's associated facilities.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Supervises first and/or second shift workers at one or multiple garage locations.
Esures that the Fleet vehicles and garages comply with all appropriate safety regulations and are managed to high safety standards.
Actively supports the Company's goal of "zero injuries every day."
Ensures that Fleet vehicles are safe, reliable and available.
Ensures that the financial targets are met for each garage, and for the Department.
Ensures that all maintenance, repair and replacement are performed on time and cost-effectively.
Develops technicians so as to improve productivity.
Ensures that all work orders are complete and correct.
Provides support to the clients in various lines of business/departments.
Maintains excellent relationships with clients, union leadership and employees.
Leads the people in the garage(s) and develops Working Leaders to be better leaders.
Ensures compliance with all environmental, safety and employment laws, regulations and Company policies.
Responsible for the supervision, productivity and accountability of the personnel, contractors, material and supplies required to maintain the fleet.
Coordinate and direct work planning and schedules of the day or night shifts that they are assigned, while ensuring the efficient allocation of resources to maximize productivity, meet customer requirements and utilize the most cost effective method of vehicles/equipment maintenance and repair.
Respond to emergency requests from other departments to provide personnel and equipment in support of Storm and other Gas and Electric restoration emergencies while maintaining the integrity of Fleet Operations.
Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited institution
Concentration in academic studies relevant to one of the career paths
Graduated between May 2017 and May 2018
Earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher; official college transcript required for confirmation
Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills
Preference given to candidates with relevant internship experiences
Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program June 4, 2018
Valid driver’s license with safe driving history
Proven leadership experience in at least/one/of the following:
o College leadership position (e.g., student government, clubs, athletics).
o Leadership and/or volunteer experience, in and/or out of the college environment
o Experienced a full or part-time job while at college and acquired relevant work experience
Candidates with advanced certifications desired (examples: CDL license, state inspectors license, various ASE certifications). Prefer candidates that possess a NYS CDL Class A driver's license.
Prefer candidates that possess a NYS inspectors licenses for light and heavy duty vehicles.
Prefer candidates that hold ASE certifications in Automotive, Med/Hvy. vehicles and Auxiliary power systems.
Thorough knowledge of automobile and truck theory and practice, also demonstrated knowledge of hydraulics, aerial devices, digger/derricks and associated equipment.
Knowledge of mechanical engineering technology subjects pertaining to vehicles; preferably possesses at least a two year degree in mechanical engineering technology, or equivalent.
Demonstrates a strong commitment to safety.
