NiSource Power Equipment Engineer/Specialist in Gary, Indiana

Responsible for the design, installation, testing and maintenance of EHV and HV substation power equipment in the Companys electric transmission and distribution substations. Provides engineering support on site and directs various operating, maintenance and construction personnel to insure that all substation power systems are installed, tested, and operate properly. Maintains, inspects and troubleshoots power transformers, circuit breakers, reclosers, batteries, chargers and monitoring equipment used on the electric system. Investigates and provides solutions to field problems with power equipment at company-owned substations or customer facilities. Designs and installs power equipment-monitoring systems. Assists in planning and prioritizing of substation maintenance. Provides technical assistance and engineering services to various departments within the company as well as industrial, commercial, and residential customers.

Knowledge of electrical engineering principles including: electric circuit theory, electric energy systems, electronics theory, equipment troubleshooting and practices, and engineering computer applications including mainframe and PC based programs.

Knowledge of mechanical engineering principals includes hydraulics, thermodynamics, statics and dynamics, pneumatics, and material science.

Skills required include the ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics, operate electrical test and measurement equipment and interpret the results.

It is essential to have good communication skills for interfacing with company bargaining unit and non-bargaining unit personnel or outside customers.

Knowledge normally acquired through four-year BSEE or BSEET degree and experience gained in other engineering positions.
