MidAmerican Energy Company Intern-Software Engineering in Davenport, Iowa
Purpose of Position:
Designed for college students who are pursuing a bachelor's degree and have interest in information technology/software engineering, and experience in computer programming, using Microsoft .Net, SQL and/or Java.
MidAmerican Energy Company's goal is to expose the intern to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the information technology/applications environment. The intent is to give students an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the work place. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly with total hours not to exceed 1,000 per calendar year.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions)
Design, code, test, document and implement application programs
Enhances existing systems; participates in client walkthroughs and technical design reviews. Participates in design reviews and peer code walkthroughs.
Perform software development and ensure conformance to performance optimization and interoperability standards and requirements. Work in adherence to secure development lifecycle practices and policies.
Performs or assists in the research and fact-finding to develop or modify application programs.
Perform basic system analysis and design functions.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
College student, junior or higher standing in a bachelor's degree program or final year of an associate’s degree in management information systems (MIS), computer science, or related technical field.
Basic knowledge of programming in client/server and/or web development environment.
Basic knowledge of open systems object design methodologies, architecture methodologies, security practices and integration techniques. Basic knowledge of relational database technology, structured analysis concepts, and software design patterns.
Business analysis aptitude including communications and interpersonal skills enabling an understanding of client's needs.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Technical knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft .Net development. Hands-on experience in .NET and other current computing programming languages is a plus.
Preferred schedule is at least 12-20 hours per week while going to school and 20-40 hours a week in the summer.
