Position Description:

Candidate must be able to work in a team environment to provide permitting and compliance support to a variety of company facilities, including fossil, hydro and nuclear power generating stations, as well as transmission and distribution facilities.

Specific areas of responsibility include landfill permitting, groundwater data statistical evaluations, environmental report writing, preparation of environmental site assessments and support of permitting and licensing of environmental control projects.

Assistance to the Region Environmental Coordinators working in the T&D field is part of the responsibility. Assistance with western plant compliance with the coal combustion residuals rule is too.

Some travel is required, estimated to be at the 20% level. Having the EIT, PE, environmental experience and/or a master of science degree in environmental engineering are all considered to be pluses.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Requirements forEnvironmental Engineer Sr:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Civil Engineering or environmental engineering, in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Experience: Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*;Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state is encouraged and preferred.

Minimum Requirements forEnvironmental Engineer:

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably Civil Engineering or environmental engineering, in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

Experience: Has typically acquired 2 or more years of related engineering experiencealong with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; Individuals with a Master’s or Doctorate degree in engineering may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.

Acceptable alternatives are a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.

Passing the Fundamentals of Engineering examination in preparation for future licensing as a Professional Engineer (PE), or already having the PE, is encouraged and preferred.

Requirements other:

  • Possesses intermediate level knowledge and performs varied assignments with proficiency in the completion of diverse tasks and extensive analyses.

  • Demonstrates competency in techniques necessary to handle assignments of moderate complexity. (e.g., by dividing the problem into component steps, and performing the analysis necessary to complete each step).

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes.

  • Coordinates work activities of others within the work group, department, or other corporate entity as necessary to complete routine activities.

  • Performs routine compliance activities with minimum direction from higher-level employees.

Up to 20% periodic travel required in AEP’s Eastern and western regions. Forty hours/week plus some uncompensated overtime.
