Job Description Position Summary:
Engineer Senior within the Geotechnical Engineering Section of Engineering Services to support, primarily, the generation facilities of theAEPsystem. Work will include a combination of office work consisting of performing engineering calculations, reviewing documents and preparing reports; planning and coordinating programmatic engineering work associated with regulatory compliance and facility assessments; and field work including reconnaissance and inspections of existing facilities and new sites.
This position will be based out of theAEPCorporate Office in Columbus, Ohio.
Travel will be required up to 30% withinAEPEastern and Western regions, including a combination of day trips and overnight stays.
The successful individual will be expected to have the technical and project management skills to primarily coordinate and manage AEP dam and dike inspection program, as well as perform the inspections. Other work that will be expected may include:
Perform calculations and analyses in the area of foundations, pavement design, slope stability, drainage and erosion/sediment control. Prepare conceptual grading plans.
Perform field inspections of dams, dikes and landfills and prepare reports summarizing the inspections and recommendations as appropriate. Such inspections will require physical exertion due to the nature of walking along the crests and slopes of berms.
Prepare scope of work documents for engineering contracts and coordinate the activities of the selected consultants. Review reports and drawings prepared by consultants in support ofAEPprojects.
Prepare construction bid documents that will include: scope of work, pay item descriptions; quantity takeoffs; specifications and QAQC plans.
Has typically acquired 6 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (MS preferred) in a program accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET)*; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state is encouraged and preferred.
*Acceptable alternatives are(1) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S.or(2) a Bachelor’s degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master’s degree in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor’s program.
This work may be related to: soil and foundation engineering; landfill and earthen dam design and inspections; and site and drainage design. Knowledgeable in Microstation and/or AutoCAD is a plus.
