Information Technology Test / QA Specialist

Colorado Springs Utilities is seeking an Information Technology Test / QA Specialist to join a small but growing team responsible for raising the quality of services and products provided by IT to both internal and external CSU customers. CSU’s IT department provides and supports several hundred software applications, ranging from common office productivity tools to custom applications designed and built “in-house”. The Test/QA team identifies defects and issues through testing activities supporting many development and administration teams both within and outside of IT, including external vendors. We also define, support, enforce, and audit the work processes followed by IT. As a key member of the Test/QA team, you will bring the knowledge and experience to raise the maturity of the Test/QA role within IT and drive the team toward industry best practices through continuous improvement.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Define, document, enforce, and socialize Test/QA standards and processes to ensure a high and consistent level of quality across all IT services and products

  • Design, document, and execute test plans and scenarios to identify defects and issues in IT services and products prior to delivery

  • Assess and evaluate test plans, scenarios, and results created by other teams for rigor, completeness, accuracy and compliance to established standards

  • Support and advocate for the introduction of test automation tools (a new and future focus for the team)

  • Define, document, and socialize high quality work processes across IT

  • Evaluate, audit, and encourage process compliance by CSU personnel within and outside of IT

What will it take to be successful? Qualified applicants typically offer 5+ years of progressive experience in a relevant technology field as a Test/QA/Systems analyst or engineer and come with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Technology, Software Engineering or similar technical field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).

Additionally, we seek applicants with any of the following:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in testing and QA methodologies, processes, and tools

  • Practical experience with automated testing tools and methods applicable at all levels including unit, integration, regression and user interface

  • Exposure to and experience with a wide variety of enterprise software applications, especially from multiple vendors and requiring complex integrations

  • Experience migrating from a diverse, multiple vendor, custom integrated software portfolio to a single vendor, cloud/hybrid based software suite

  • Some experience with programming and scripting languages, SQL, and software and database design

  • ITIL 2011 process knowledge, experience and/or certification, especially in Change Management, Release Management, and Configuration Management
