Engineering Data Technician

Location: IA - Cedar Rapids

Develops, updates and maintains modeling parameters used by the planning and operations groups for planning, operating and maintaining the ITC Holdings transmission systems and validating system models for accuracy; updates and maintains databases used by the planning and operations groups


  • Calculates ROW/corridor line impedance constants for ITC operating companies

  • Creates line impedance sheets and maintains and updates the Impedance Database.

  • Creates and submits MTEP projects to the MISO Model On Demand (MOD) system for power flow model development supporting NERC MOD-032 compliance.

  • Maintains ‘as is’ power flow model with monthly impedance, rating and topology updates/corrections to the MISO Model On Demand (MOD) system.

  • Creates ratings sheets and updates the Ratings Database supporting NERC FAC-008 compliance.

  • Maintains the necessary skills and knowledge of the following software, PSS/E, CAPE, MOD, MOD File Builder, ITC Viewer and Microsoft Access Databases.

  • Coordinates impedances for modeling with external entities.

  • Collaborates with programming analyst to develop databases and requested data reports.

  • Provides employee training, coaching, and guidance in the use of various databases and software tools.


  • Associate’s degree in a technical specialty such as Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology or Design / Computer Assisted Drawing; Bachelor’s degree in a technical specialty such as Electrical Engineering Technology preferred.

  • Minimum of two (2) years of related work experience preferred.

  • Electrical and power system coursework preferred.

  • Working knowledge of electric utility substation and/or transmission line components.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with superiors and individuals inside and outside the Company.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Sound analytical problem-solving and documentation skills.

  • Ability to multi-task.
