Description

A. Duties 1. Under directive supervision, does the less complicated construction and maintenance work on dead conductors, structures and equipment. 2. Under close supervision works on energized conductors, structures and equipment not exceeding 500 volts. 3. May be required to install, remove, connect or disconnect electric and/or gas meters and services. 4. Performs other related or less skilled work as directed. 5. Will be expected to acquire necessary knowledge and skills required for advancement to Lineman-Second Class. The measure of knowledge and skills acquired will be determined by appropriate tests. Note:Upon successful completion of the second test, which will be given after one year of work in this classification, the apprentice will be promoted to Lineman-Second Class.

B. Experience, Education and Special Information Required: 1. Should have had at least one year's experience in the Line Department or its equivalent. 2. Able to perform routine operations of moderate complexity and variety based on detailed instructions.Equivalent to about two years of high school. 3. Must have demonstrated the ability to learn general line department practices and standards as indicated by an appropriate test. 4. Must be able to qualify for automobile operator's license.

C. Physical Qualifications: 1. Normal health, physique and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physicalexamination given by a company physician, including color perception.

  1. Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.

D. Personal Qualifications: 1. Must be willing to work irregular and/or extra hours as required. 2. Must be willing to work under unusual or special working conditions and surroundings as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
