Entry Level:

Under direct supervision, provides internal and external customer contact, administrative assistance, investigation; and settlement of property and personal damage claims for and against Idaho Power Company. This position is primarily responsible for recovery claims. Submits and follows through with insurance companies on claim for damages caused by others to Idaho Power’s infrastructure. Initiates restitution and small claims actions and attends small claims and restitution hearings. May act as the backup for the Damage Claims Billing Clerk.

Representative Level:

Under minimal direction, provides internal and external customer contact, administrative assistance, investigation, and settles property and personal damage claims for and against Idaho Power Company. This position is primarily responsible for recovery claims. Submits and follows through with insurance companies on claim for damages caused by others to Idaho Power’s infrastructure. Initiates restitution and small claims actions and attends small claims and restitution hearings. May act as the backup for the Damage Claims Billing Clerk.

Interacts with Idaho Power Regional Employees to gather complete and accurate property damage documentation. Acts as Damage Claims liaison to regional employee - attending regular regional staff meetings.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Knowledge of :

  • Knowledge of insurance practices, procedure and regulations and liability law.

Skills in:

  • Excellent interpersonal, proficient oral and written communication skills, analytical and negotiation skills.

  • Proper telephone etiquette and tone.

  • Ability to obtain time sensitive information from internal customers while maintaining excellent working relationships.

  • Developing skills documenting and illustrating accident scenes.

  • Prefer :

  • Collection Law including bankruptcy law

  • Magistrate and District Court protocol and procedures

  • Insurance best practices, procedure and regulations and liability law.

  • Practical experience applying those Claims adjustment practices and/or liability law

  • Familiarity with Idaho and Oregon laws of personal, property and vehicle claims

  • Idaho and Oregon underground damage prevention dig laws

  • Overhead Safety Act, National Electrical Safety Code

  • Idaho Power Company Standards

  • Applicable Idaho and Oregon Public Utilities Commission approved Rules, Rates and Tariffs

  • Basic electricity training, electrical distribution

Ability to:

  • Ability to diffuse stressful and confrontational situations.

  • Assist in analyzing and evaluating the most cost effective method to resolving claims and negotiate and settle claims while remaining customer focused.

  • High level of adaptability and self-motivation.

  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work under a demanding workload and work effectively in a team environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Damage Claims Entry Level)

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED and some post high school education

Experience:

  • 3 years of related experience in an office environment

  • Prefer :

  • Experience in customer service and working with internal customer to obtain time sensitive information while maintaining an excellent working relationship

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Damage Claims Representative Level)

Education:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent combination of formal education and experience.

  • Prefer :

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, criminal justice, or related degree.

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience in claims handling including accident investigation, liability determination, negotiating and settling claims, working with legal counsel to resolve litigated claims.

  • Experience in customer service and working with internal customer to obtain time sensitive information while maintaining an excellent working relationship.

  • Experience operating computer software including Microsoft Office suite and customer information systems.

  • Prefer :

  • Five years of experience in claims handling to include insurance practices, procedure and regulations, accident investigation, liability determination, negotiating and settling claims. One year experience working with legal counsel to resolve litigated claims.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position.

  • Prefer :

  • Working on AIC professional certification.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • With direct supervision, the Damage Claims Representative Entry determines liability on claims against Idaho Power, and assist investigating claims against Idaho Power. Candidate will have limited knowledge of claims adjustment practices and liability law.

  • With the direction from supervisor or Damage Claims Professional, the Damage Claims Representative handles uncomplicated claims working towards claims of increasing complexity with experience. Including investigation of cause of loss, liability and damages. With direction, may negotiate disputed claims and helps manage litigation.
