Leader of Wind Development


This leadership position is responsible for developing and implementing a national strategy of utility scale wind greenfield development and M&A due diligence. This position is responsible for leading cross functional teams of professionals that develop all aspect of projects and/or perform diligence (acquisitions) for projects utilizing wind power generation technology (turbines, balance of system, etc.). This position is responsible for full scope project management and team leadership from the identification stage through board approval. This includes creating and driving integrated project development processes, schedules, selecting generating technologies, and directing a cross-functional team of subject matter experts resulting in successful projects.


  • Leads a cross functional team of professionals that are highly proficient in matters related to existing, new and emerging utility scale wind generation technologies (turbines, balance of system, PPA terms, etc.)

  • Directs the planning, priority and execution of teams responsible for all project development activities

  • Creates and drives processes for organically developed projects as well as project acquisitions

  • Leads a team that is the single point of contact during the project development process as well as the diligence process; full scope project management through board approval

  • Drives a fully integrated project development schedule that links all critical development activities (permitting, OEM contracting, procurement, fuels, transmission, construction, etc.)

  • Negotiation of major/complex contracts (i.e. equipment supply contracts, etc.)

  • Ensure collaboration among a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external resources to promote the timely completion of all tasks leading to the success of the project

  • Create cost competitive projects by challenging all project cost (capital and operating) inputs for business case

  • Evaluate plant performance criteria and make equipment selections that optimize technical adequacy, overall lifecycle cost and financial return

  • Transition projects (whether developed or acquired) to EPC team for construction

Candidates with the following preferred qualifications are encouraged to apply:


  • Bachelor's degree required, Engineering degree or equivalent preferred

  • Master's degree in Engineering or MBA highly desirable


  • Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in developing utility scale generation projects

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience including experience building teams, setting strategy, prioritizing and leading technical teams

  • Extensive experience working in a commercial environment with excellent negotiation and influencing skills

  • Experience leading financial evaluations, planning, mergers and acquisitions, balance sheets and cash flow preferred

  • Ability to consider both analytical data and commercial/financial implications in making sound decisions
