Exelon Corporation Generation Dispatcher in BALTIMORE, Maryland
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
This position provides an interface between external customers such as the Independent System Operator’s, Regional Transmission Organization’s and Generating Stations as well as internal customers such as Fossil Duty Officer, Fuels, Generation Liaisons, Nuclear Duty Officer, Real Time Trading, Next Day Trading, and Wholesale Team Management. The Wholesale Team Generation Dispatcher proactively ensures requests for energy and ancillaries are met while ensuring compliance with NERC and ISO requirements as well as Wholesale’s Generation Dispatch procedures to achieve positive results for Exelon.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES · Coordinate, direct, and schedule, the dispatch of Exelon’s generating units and PPA’s during normal and emergency operations. · Monitors generation conditions via the Control System via alarms, telemetry values, status, etc. and keeps updated to meet requested dispatch of our assets and PPA’s. This includes coordination with ISO/RTO’s and plant personnel to meet system operation. · Responds to ISO and/or Control Center Personnel Operating Requests during normal and emergency operations. · Communicates and log generation and system issues (communicates with plant operators & ISO’s, coordinates real time outages and testing, updates schedules, adjust generation of units as needed). · Manage real time generating unit outages and testing (evaluate capacity status, evaluate and process requests for generator outages and testing). · Prepares operating reports (Instantaneous Reserve Check, Supplementary Status Reports, Minimum Generation worksheet, etc.) · Reviews, acknowledges, maintains, updates, and provides feedback on generation related Dispatcher Procedures. · Supports ISO driven systems and or procedure changes. · As required, performs testing on communications equipment and system database upgrades. · As required, recommend and proactively drive necessary updates to our systems (Control System & other supporting systems) to ensure operational excellence (ie. Control system display changes, Alarming changes, additional functionality to support market changes). · As requested, perform analysis of system events that impact Exelon’s generation portfolio. · Make notifications of telecommunication issues to both internal and external telecommunications providers (telecommunication problems – ie. RTUs, phones, satellite phone) ·Remains knowledgeable of the market rules we operate. Performs required training and continuing training to be compliant with training requirements.
Minimum: ·Three years’ experience as a generation dispatcher or an equivalent energy related position. ·Knowledge of AESO, BPA, ERCOT, ISO-NE, MISO, PJM, and SPP markets. ·Shall obtain PJM Certification within 6 months. ·Shall obtain NERC Certification within two years. ·Excellent verbal and written communication skills. ·Exhibit strong problem-solving and analytical ability. ·Extremely detail-oriented and self-motivated with the ability to think independently and creatively. ·Demonstrate the ability to respond to emergencies & manage stressful situations. ·Ability to work in an operating environment that requires 24x7 shift work including Holidays. ·Ability to multi-task to meet tight deadlines.
Preferred: ·Five years’ experience as a generation dispatcher or an equivalent energy related position. ·Undergraduate degree in Engineering or other technical degree. ·Operational plant or utility experience. ·Leadership experience. ·Experience with Control systems. ·Leadership experience. ·Experience with Control systems.
