DTE Energy is a diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy related business and services nationwide. Wholesale, Power and Renewables (WPR) is an affiliate of DTE Energy that utilizes waste wood to produce renewable power for sale to utilities under long-term purchase power agreements. WPR has exciting Co-Op opportunities for the right candidates.
To support activities relating to safety, environmental compliance, productivity, and profitability, while developing a functional understanding of the processes. The co-op will work alongside the operation and maintenance teams to learn the fuel handling and power generation processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities*
Assist management in all fuel handling, power generation, and auxiliary processes as a collaborative member of the operation and maintenance teams.
Work collaboratively with the Central Engineering team and contractors to support successful project execution and maintenance activities.
Supply technical support to both the operating and maintenance personnel.
Contribute to activities improving safety, environmental compliance, overall productivity and equipment reliability by developing Standard Operating Procedures [SOPs], Standard Work Instructions [SWIs] and process flow diagrams.
Develop an understanding of the combustion process and heat balances.
The successful candidate will be in pursuit of a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited university.
This position requires a solid self-directed individual with demonstrated problem solving skills utilizing the scientific method.
Must be proficient at presenting viable recommendations and action plans.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Proficient with appropriate computer software applications.
Ability to interpret and modify technical drawings and process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs)
Practical experience utilizing root cause analysis tools and problem solving with the scientific method.
Carry out failure analysis and determine the corrective action to prevent future occurrences.
Skills to analyze the process and determine any engineering changes required to improve safety and product quality or reduce operating costs.
Ability to collect, organize, and analyze data to facilitate data driven decisions.

The employee will frequently be exposed to conditions of: working near moving mechanical parts and airborne particles. The employee will occasionally be exposed to conditions of: work in high, precarious places, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, and vibrations.
