Position Summary

The Power Generation Operations Field Safety leadership team ensures safe field practices and assists in closing performance gaps. The team’s partner with the Hydro and Fossil Operations leaders to facilitate understanding and improvement of safe work practices. The leaders also assist with job planning and storm response safety support. These leaders promote all company and regulatory safety policies and procedures. Field safety personnel also conduct field safety observations, participate in work planning, investigate human performance incidents, document root causes and develop metrics to monitor future performance. Constantly reinforces the organizational safety culture and related behaviors.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office, and your assigned location based on business need, but primarily consists of field work engaging with the workforce.Headquartered at Auberry Service Center.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $48.07 to $77.41 ​

Responsibilities:

  • Performs field safety observations, including real-time coaching to workforce, and documents in system of record.

  • Provides safety subject matter expertise during the work planning process.

  • Provides strategic direction and oversight of human performance improvement initiatives and processes.

  • Coaches’ workforce on proper human performance behaviors and on conducting investigations. Ensures work is completed in a timely manner. May conduct the more complex investigations independently.

  • Reviews staff’s investigation findings, handling any escalated issues or concerns from involved supervisors or managers. May escalate complex issues to Manager, Field Safety.

  • Participates in on-going reporting which includes tracking, trending, and evaluating human performance measures associated with corrective action effectiveness.

  • Oversees staff’s use of Event Reporting Application and ensures accurate entry, investigation log, and incident follow-up are completed with professional quality.

  • Pro-actively communicates to Field Safety organization, and Line (field) leadership informational human error related trend data and investigation analysis reviews.

  • Thoroughly investigates work process and human performance errors, Applies the Human Factor Analysis & Classification System (HFACS) models and to error investigations through identification and risk assessment.

  • Determines corrective action items needed from investigation results, ensuring pro-active processes and well-defined explanations are included on the appropriate investigative report.

  • Interfaces with other departments such as PG&E Academy, Methods and Procedures, Quality Assurance, Quality Control and Safety Engineering, and Health Services to collect and/or exchange information during investigations and to communication and implement recommended changes.

  • Communicates investigation resolution to multiple stakeholders, departments, managers, and staff within PG&E.

  • Provides oversight and coordination of HPI initiatives, and Electric Distribution Operations investigations that have great complexity and high visibility.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 5 years of total related experience

Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Behavioral Science, Sociology, Phycology or Anthropology

  • Safety Professional Certification (e.g., Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Safety Professional, Certified Hazardous Materials Management)

  • Formal HFACs or HPI training or certifications.

  • Experience in restoration, electric operations, electric distribution, electric transmission, or substation maintenance & construction.

  • Project management or Team Lead experience
