JOB SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for supporting productivity tools at Southern Company. This includes:

  • Provide expert level user support for desktop and web based technologies to business partners across the Southeast.

  • Apply and test patches for desktop software.

  • Participate on a team supporting Office365 applications throughout the organization, including Office on demand, Office Pro, OneDrive and SharePoint.

The End-User Information Analyst level will be dependent upon skill/knowledge level.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Technical Skills Required

  1. Extensive desktop knowledge including installation, patching and testing.

  2. A working knowledge of the following tools and technologies:

  3. Microsoft Office (v.2010, v.2013, On Demand, etc.)

  4. Adobe products including Acrobat, Flash and AIR

  5. SharePoint (2010, 2013, SharePoint Online)

  6. Internet browsers including Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.

  7. Ticket tracking applications such as Remedy

  8. Working knowledge of cloud-based applications

  9. Recognition of cyber security threats and risks, and importance of protecting the computing environment

  10. Capacity to learn and apply new technologies and concepts

  11. Ability to research solutions to problems, as well as stay up-to-date on constantly changing technology

  12. Superb diagnostic, troubleshooting, analysis and problem-solving skills

Non-Technical Skills Required

  1. Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) as well as technical writing

  2. Works well on a geographically dispersed team

  3. Ability to simplify complex subjects in a way that can be easily understood by non-technical audiences

Education and Experience Requirements

  1. 4-yr bachelor’s degree in a computing or engineering field is strongly desired. Consideration will be given to highly qualified candidates who are currently enrolled in college, have demonstrated positive progress in their studies, and are expected to graduate with a 4-yr bachelor’s degree in less than two years.

  2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an IT related field.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Drives the patching process for desktop based applications

  2. Develops and executes test plans for third party applications

  3. Provides detailed product knowledge as it relates to the products supported

  4. Works daily with users to provide training and support of the suite of business applications

  5. Documents the products, versions, patch levels and detailed configurations of products. Provides general guidance and training around the use of the products through whitepapers, presentations, Tech Tips, Knowledgebase articles, consulting, etc.

  6. Ensures a smooth implementation and transition to support by preparing the IT FO resources, IT Service Center, and IT portfolio resources with material they need to successfully support products in production and answer end-users’ questions

  7. Ensures documentation around using the products is kept up to date on intranet sites, knowledgebase articles, the IT Products and Initiatives portal, and other repositories of information

  8. Actively monitors and participates in company social media forums and on Yammer and SharePoint

  9. Interfaces with IT groups that are involved in supporting the product, or other closely aligned products

  10. Works with other IT groups to enhance the end-user experience of products and better leverage capabilities

  11. Keeps up with industry research and current events, particularly around productivity tools

  12. Maintains relationships with vendors around product roadmap, pre-sales, product support, maintenance, and issue resolution
