This role assists in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP and the rules and regulations of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The staff accountant assists in the preparation of SEC (10-K, 10-Q, 11-K, S filings) and other public filings, including the coordination and preparation of required disclosure information for 140+ business units world-wide.

This position helps identify and communicate to key stakeholders, the impacts of new or proposed accounting interpretations, pronouncements or other technical literature.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Prepare monthly intercompany elimination entries

  • Facilitate a successful consolidation of +140 international businesses

  • Prepare monthly consolidated financial statements and variance analysis

  • Prepare monthly calculation of Non-GAAP measures

Financial reporting

  • Assist in preparation of XBRL-formatted documents for required SEC filings

  • Assist in the preparation of supporting packages for footnote disclosures in the Quarterly and Annual Report to Shareholders

  • Assist in providing a timely and accurate external filing on a consistent basis

  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control reviews

Technical research

  • Stay current on new GAAP or newly relevant GAAP.

  • Ensure timely documentation of key issues and relevance to AES for review by management


  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives


  • Excellent documentation skills – attention to detail, rigorous work paper standards

  • Able to research and apply technical accounting concepts (thorough knowledge of GAAP)

  • Exposure to SAP and consolidation systems highly desirable, Microsoft Office (Word and Excel in particular) products

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Self motivated and strong organizational skills


  • BS in Accounting

  • CPA strongly preferred


  • 3+ years experience with public/private mix

  • Current relevant experience with consolidations in a multinational environment

  • Large public accounting company experience

  • Exposure to complex technical accounting issues – impairments, defined benefit plans, discontinued operations, acquisition and divestiture accounting
