In 2007, AES Energy Storage was founded as a result of AES' initial survey of advances in battery technology for electric vehicles. We saw an application and an opportunity to use similar technology to improve the flexibility and efficiency of power grids and to make the energy generated from renewable sources more reliable. From our initial technical pilot with Indianapolis Power & Light in Indiana which connected the world’s first lithium battery system with the power grid to our world’s leading platform of 476 MW in operation, construction or late-stage development across seven countries today, we’ve been on the forefront in the industry.
AES Energy Storage recently announced it will be forming a joint venture with Siemens named Fluence. Fluence will provide leading energy storage technologies and services to this high growth market. The new company will unite two market leaders to provide the Advancion and Siestorage battery storage platforms as well as a full complement of advisory and operational services to electric utilities, developers and commercial and industrial customers around the world. As one integrated team we will accelerate product and services development, and best serve our customers’ diverse energy storage needs.
