About Transmission and Distribution
Southern California Edison’s (SCE's) Transmission and Distribution Organizational Unit (T & D) is responsible for planning, engineering, constructing, operating, and maintaining transmission and distribution facilities throughout the 50,000-square-mile territory. T&D is the steward of roughly $19 billion in assets that safely and reliably deliver electricity to 14 million residents via SCE’s 5 million customer accounts.
This position will be a Surveillance Inspector in the Transmission Project Delivery Division within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution Operating Unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for meeting all Transmission Telecommunications construction operating dates for Transmission & Distribution Operating Unit. He/she will provide coordination and support between planners, management and Transmission Telecommunications contract crews.
Responsibilities may include
Conducts meetings related to Transmission Telecommunications construction.
Monitors work site from start of construction to completion.
Performs site inspections, schedules and addresses pre construction meetings, and surveillance of work at job sites to ensure compliance with federal state and company rules and regulations.
Documents and provides status and progress of the projects.
Prepares plans, schedules inspections, documents discrepancies and non-conformance.
Reviews “As Built “maps and drawings, verifies and accounts for deviations from specifications.
Performs inspections of overhead and underground facilities to insure compliance with company and governmental rules and regulations.
Coordinates outside plant contract construction.
Performs maintenance, schedules equipment and material in support of operating requirements.
Facilitates activities effectively by monitoring tasks and expenditures, compiling data, tracking, and maintaining reference information.
Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions, safety deficiencies, violations and unsafe work practices.
Provide recommendations for corrective actions.
Two or more years of experience performing surveillance and inspections, or civil construction, or civil engineering, or civil drafting.
Experience with telecommunication construction standards and procedures.
Experience with utility underground and overhead construction practices, specifications and requirements.
Must have a valid U.S. Driver’s License.
A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience with Transmission Telecommunications Construction Standards, the Underground Structures (UGS) Manual, Communication System Practices Manual, GO128, GO95, and related industry standards.
Reading and understanding work order drawings, surveys and utility substructure and overhead maps.
Documenting installed facilities locations on as-built drawings and preparing supporting documentation.
Managing multiple tasks with conflicting schedules and limited timelines.
Evaluating the effectiveness of projects, including monitoring progress, reallocating resources, reporting on status, and implementing changes as needed.
Performing inspections, including providing technical support, identifying compliance issues, and providing corrective recommendations.
Coordinating activities between the Company and contractors, including assigning work, monitoring projects, and reviewing field dailies for accuracy.
Preparing and delivering reports to subordinates, peers, and/or management.
Presenting technical information to technical and non-technical audiences.
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Candidates for this position must be legally authorized to work directly as employees for any employer in the United States without visa sponsorship.
Able to work overtime on an as needed basis.
Position will require up to 50% of regular travel throughout Southern California Edison’s 50,000 square mile service territory, including to remote rugged locations. This may include out of town and overnight stay for periods of days and occasionally weeks.
