This position reports to the Manager, Asset Information & Tools and is located at the General Office in Akron, Ohio 44308.

The Supervisor, Asset Information, is a newly created position in the group that is responsible for supervising a team of employees responsible for the all aspects information/data associated with FE’s substation equipment. The primary storage of the information is in Cascade (equipment management database), PowerBase (a relay configuration database), and Asset Health Center. This position will be responsible for all aspects of data entry, data standards, data analytics and quality monitoring, and QlikView report creation for Cascade, PowerBase, and Asset Health Center data. The position will work across FE with many departments, including but not limited to: regional operating company personnel, FERC Compliance, EDPP, Transmission & Substation Design, Transmission & Substation Services, Project Management, IT, and Work Management. In additional to FE internal stakeholders, this position will work with multiple vendors to propose and implement data standards and quality controls into the asset systems. This position we be Asset Management & Records Control’s (AMRC) responsible person for the FE Transmission Big Data Initiative and also AMRC’s Data Governance Committee.


  • Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

  • Developing asset data standards for Cascade (500,000+ equipment records), PowerBase (150,000+ equipment records), Asset Health, and other asset systems. The candidate will work with many stakeholders across FE to develop these standards. Stakeholders in the regional operating company personnel, FERC Compliance, EDPP, Transmission & Substation Design, Transmission & Substation Services, Project Management, IT, and Work Management departments.

  • Analyzing, developing, recommending and leading the implementation of processes to align disparate data across many different FE software systems

  • Working with the asset systems vendors to propose and implement data standards and quality controls into the asset systems.

  • Maintaining the integrity of substation equipment and related data in multiple databases, including Cascade, PowerBase, Asset Health Center, and other asset systems

  • Cascade, OTCM, & Asset Health Center new equipment Data Entry

  • Pre-Energization Sign-off

  • Data Analytics and Quality Monitoring

  • QlikView Report creation & maintenance

  • Big Data / Data Governance Project

  • Running complex data queries against system data

  • Running complex scripts to modify and clean up data issues in the Cascade, PowerBase, and Asset Health Center.

  • Advanced data analytics to find issues with Cascade data. Examples:

  • Analyzing MFG / Models across equipment categories. Working with OpCos and engineering to ensure that devices are categorized correctly.

  • Relay Scheme cleanup project – analyzing and working with engineering and OpCos to determine a standard for the relay schemes. Managing the project to clean up and script all the changes back into Cascade.

  • Proposing new solutions to improve Cascade, PowerBase, and Asset Health data quality, accuracy, and standards to FE management.

  • Leading process improvement activities that increase productivity and enhance data quality.

  • Directing and developing staff responsible for FE’s substation equipment information.

  • Conducting applicant interviews, managing employees’ performance to achieve established objectives, conducting performance reviews with employees, and providing coaching on an ongoing basis.

  • Understanding and managing work according to business needs, departmental budget, and regulatory requirements.

  • Setting priorities for the team to ensure task completion; coordinating work activities with other supervisors and/or managers.

  • Encouraging open, honest, direct, and ongoing conversation amongst team members.

  • Analyzing complex issues and developing actionable recommendation; ensuring decisions impacting the team and FE Regional Management are based on data and sound reasoning.

  • Providing asset systems database support

  • Providing support to users

  • Providing training to the regions

  • Supporting the Emergency Plan through participating in the assigned storm duties including hazard response and hazard dispatch activities


  • Associate's degree in an engineering or information technology discipline or a Bachelor’s Degree in a non-engineering or information technology discipline. Position level requires minimum of 5 years of related work experience.

  • In lieu of a degree, 7 years of direct, related experience will be considered. The experience must include data reporting and analysis along with an in-depth understanding of the subject matter.

  • Proven effective leadership skills to communicate with and direct work of others that will ensure safety and produce satisfactory work.

  • Excellent customer relations skills and strong communication skills to make clear, accurate and concise oral and written reports.

  • Experience in Energy Delivery (ED) transmission/distribution systems or in general business operations preferred

  • Knowledge of Energy Delivery work management processes and procedures preferred

  • Familiarity of transmission substation equipment and related attributes preferred.

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and to provide excellent customer service, as well as work independently.

  • Ability to manage a dynamic work environment with travel periodically between multiple local work locations and occasional overnight stay required.

  • Established relationships with internal customers a plus.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively convey information to various levels in the organization

  • Excellent analytical abilities involving complex problems; exercise sound judgment; detail oriented.

  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships

  • Familiarity working with databases is preferred.

  • Familiarity with any or all – Cascade / QlikView / Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA) / CrossBow / SAP is preferred.

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word.
