About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FEU]

This position reports to the Supervisor, Asset Management Systems and is located at the General Office in Akron, Ohio 44308. The primary function of this position will be to support FE’s new Operational Technology Configuration Management (OTCM) tool. The OTCM system which is made up of Powerbase and RTS is the primary storage and collection system for configuration information. Powerbase (a relay configuration database) was rolled out in April 2017 and RTS (a relay testing and configuration tool already utilized by FE) is being modified to interface with PowerBase in 2017-2018. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day business administration, support, and general communications related to OTCM. The position will work across FE with many departments, including but not limited to: regional operating company personnel, FERC Compliance, EDPP, Transmission & Substation Design, Transmission & Substation Services, Project Management, IT, and Work Management. In addition to FE internal stakeholders, this position will work with the Doble/ENOSERV (OTCM vendor) to propose and implement PowerBase upgrades to enhance the usability of PowerBase.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrating and directing a solid commitment to all aspects of safety.

  • Working with Doble/ENOSERV (PowerBase & RTS software vendor) to coordinate system improvements, upgrades and testing new releases of the code.

  • Working with FE IT, ENOSERV, and all FE internal stakeholders to coordinate OTCM system upgrades and maintenance outages.

  • Developing and documenting business processes as needed to insure consistent, sustainable operations of the OTCM system.

  • Providing training to the regions on Powerbase, RTS and related data systems, including functionality, processes, and roles and responsibilities.

  • Creating and maintaining of PowerBase / RTS Relay Templates

  • Coordinating OTCM systems upgrades, maintenance outages

  • Working with approximately 800+ FE OTCM users

  • PowerBase / RTS User Maintenance (add, remove, approve, manage, RAAD processing, etc)

  • Providing services to help maintain the integrity of substation equipment configuration and related data in the OTCM system.

  • Providing OTCM business administration services necessary to insure compliance with all regulatory standards including CIP and internal standards including RAAD.

  • Working with internal FE stakeholders on the creation, updating and administration of FE preventative and corrective maintenance procedures, relay templates and test routes in PowerBase and RTS

  • Working with others on the Asset Information and Tools team to insure proper processing of substation equipment data between Cascade and OTCM.

  • Proposing new solutions to improve PowerBase, RTS and related tools to insure accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to applicable FE standards.

  • Understanding and managing work according to business needs, departmental budget, and regulatory requirements.

  • Leading process improvement activities that increase productivity and enhance data quality.

  • Analyzing complex issues and developing actionable recommendation; ensuring decisions impacting the team and FE Regional Management are based on data and sound reasoning.

  • Supporting the Emergency Plan through participating in the assigned storm duties including hazard response and hazard dispatch activities

An employee hired at the Engineer IV level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Engineer IV level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those above.

Qualifications:

Qualifications at the Engineer III level include:

  • BS degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school (Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil) required, or a P.E. License. Position level requires minimum of 3 years of professional engineering experience. (Advanced degree a plus)

  • Understanding of substations and substation devices is preferred

  • Experience with configuration of substation devices preferred

  • Project Management experience preferred

  • Ability to read and understand substation prints and bills of material preferred

  • Ability to analyze large datasets

  • Strong analytical and technical abilities

  • Familiarity with either or all – Cascade / QlikView / Relay Settings System (RSS) / Energy Delivery Outage Application (EDOA) / CrossBow/SAP is preferred.

  • Knowledge of network communications devices and architecture is preferred

  • Familiarity working with databases is preferred

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word. SAP a plus

  • In-depth understanding of applicable technical products and/or services and of customer needs and expectations

  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships

  • Ability to model active learning through continuing to develop breadth of knowledge, skills, and perspective
