About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Solutions (FES), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FES]

This position is within the Portfolio Hedging group of Commodity Operations at FirstEnergy Solutions. Analyst will be responsible for supporting the portfolio position by over-seeing various reports and participating in relevant auctions.

The position reports to the Lead, Portfolio Hedging and is located at the West Akron Campus.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting in monitoring and preparing reports on portfolio position and clusters.

  • Establishing a strong knowledge of commodity operations and fundamentals of electric markets.

  • Defining correlation matrices and evaluating statistical risk models.

  • Evaluating hedging tools such as options and other financial instruments.

  • Downloading and analyzing market results, performing variance analyses, and recommending initiatives to support business strategy.

  • Preparing, analyzing and evaluating market forecasts to support the budget process.

  • Compiling, analyzing, and interpreting results, identifying trends useful in strategic decision making.

  • Conducting business-specific research and analyzing data, interpreting results and assisting in implementation activities when necessary.

  • Continuously looking for and recommending process improvements and efficiencies.

  • Providing high level of service, continuous support and proactive involvement to leadership and peers.

  • Providing sound customer service by exceeding customer needs.

An employee hired at the Analyst II level will be expected to perform all of the above responsibilities with more proficiency, and in a more independent manner. Further, the Analyst II level employee will be assigned additional responsibilities related to those listed above.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Mathematics, Economics or related discipline required

  • Minimum 0-4 years professional work experience required

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Ability to multitask, is self-motivated and works with limited supervision

  • Ability to deal with pressure in a constantly changing environment

  • Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines

  • Ability to challenge the status quo and continually look for way to improve processes

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel and Access)

  • Ability to write and modify code (xml, SQL, VBA, & .Net) to develop reports preferred

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, resolve problems, and investigate solutions through implementation

  • Desire to learn new skills, work closely in team environment, and willing to assist with all tasks in a small work group

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and relationship building skills
