About the Opportunity

This is an open position with FirstEnergy Solutions (FES), a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp. [FES]

This position reports to the Lead, Portfolio Analysis and is located at the West Akron Campus (WAC).

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing staff support to analyze and provide continuous process improvements in all types of business reporting. Assisting and supporting operational optimization strategies through in-depth analysis.

  • Providing data and modelling support for the development of Hedging, Generation, and Fuel strategies. Compiling the results and provide comparative analyses.

  • Working in a data retrieval and analysis role for the development, evaluation, and on-going oversight of the generation strategy. Participating on or supporting various project teams reviewing operations, processes and strategies as needed.

  • Preparing daily/weekly/monthly and tailored reports, summaries and analysis as needed and requested. Building, implementing, and supporting tools used in the development and preparation of routine reports.

  • Development of analytical processes for evaluating generation schedule within physical and contractual limitations and the communication of those results.

  • Developing responses to periodic questions through data queries and analysis. Questions will generally relate to generation and fuel economics, however, support as needed for all aspects of generation strategies and allied departments is expected.

  • Coordinating regularly with Dispatch Services, Fuel Procurement, and FES Generation in establishing fuel plans, unit offers, and outage strategies. Interactions with allied areas including Finance and other areas will also be required.

  • Occasional formal presentation of information and other interaction with Managers, Directors, and Vice Presidents in FES.

  • Willingness to identify and address issues that prevent optimal performance and to suggest alternatives for process improvement.

Qualifcations:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Engineering, Finance, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field required

  • Minimum 0-4 years professional work experience required

  • Experience in an analytical or technical role involving finance or operations preferred

  • Experience with various database systems. Experience in SAP, MSAccess, and Zema systems a plus.

  • Familiarity with RTO Markets and/or Fossil Operations is a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft applications (Excel, Power Point and Word). Working knowledge of data query tools preferred.

  • Possesses the technical skill to develop both reporting and analytic processes and to creatively use the information available to prove concepts and answer questions

  • Self-motivated, have a desire to learn, and the willingness to accept assignments in a variety of areas

  • Creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in planning, organizing and guiding business/operational processes

  • Strong communication skills involving both formal presentations and informal explanations of processes, operations, and analyses. Ability to describe complex issues to others and possess the ability to interact with senior level management.

  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple projects while working with a variety of individuals and departments
